WASHINGTON, D.C. (January 8, 2018) - Steven J. Corwin, M.D., President and Chief Executive Officer of NewYork-Presbyterian, is the 2018 council chairman of the American Hospital Association’s (AHA) constituency section for health care systems. The 21-member council represents AHA’s 250 health system members by participating in AHA’s advocacy, policy and resource development, with a particular focus on strategic opportunities from a health system’s perspective.
Dr. Corwin leads one of the nation’s largest, most comprehensive health care delivery networks. With some 4,000 beds and more than 45,000 employees, including 10,670 physicians, NewYork-Presbyterian provides care to more than 4 million patients annually, including 27,000 infant deliveries and more than 667,000 emergency department visits.
Prior to his appointment as CEO, Dr. Corwin served as executive vice president and chief operating officer of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, the academic medical center – a position he held since 2005. He joined the management team of Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center (today known as NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center) in 1991, and served in various management capacities. From 1998 to 2005, he was senior vice president and chief medical officer at NewYork-Presbyterian. A cardiologist and internist, Dr. Corwin joined the NewYork-Presbyterian team in 1979
Anthony Slonim, M.D., president and CEO of Renown Health in Reno, Nev., is the council’s chair-elect and will assume the role of chair in 2019. Joe McDonald, president and CEO of Catholic Health System in Buffalo, N.Y., is the immediate past chair.

HealthCare; Dennis Murphy, president and CEO of Indiana University Health in Indianapolis; Marsha Rappley, M.D., VCU Health System’s Health Sciences CEO and vice president in Richmond, Va.; Robert Sehring, CEO of OSF Healthcare in Peoria, Ill.; M. Shane Spees, president and CEO of North Mississippi Health Services, Inc., in Tupelo; Troy Wells, president and CEO of Baptist Health in Little Rock, Ark.; and Albert Wright, Jr., president and CEO of West Virginia University Health System in Morgantown.
