The Affordable Care Act (ACA) significantly increased reimbursement for community health clinics because more patients had health insurance. Now, with increased discussion of repealing the ACA, these facilities face an uncertain future.
Kaiser Health News spoke with four clinic directors about the impact such legislation would have on these facilities, which treated more than 24 million Americans in 2015.
“A lot of the folks that we see are single adults,” said Julie Hudman, the CEO of Saban Community Clinic in Los Angeles, California. “They’re maybe more transitional. They’re homeless patients. They have behavioral health challenges. They’re really, to be honest, some of the most vulnerable and poorest patients of all.”
