Montefiore Pioneer ACO in Bronx, N.Y., saved Medicare $24 million last year—and, thanks to its shared savings agreement, got to pocket $13 million of it. The Washington Post explores how it accomplished this feat in a system where 80 percent of patients receive Medicaid or Medicare.

“It has to do with how people are housed, what transportation is available, their educational backgrounds,” said Andrew Racine, MD, Montefiore’s chief medical officer, in the article. “Until and unless you have a system that’s attuned to these issues, you don’t have the possibility of keeping people healthy.”
